Space Marine update #5

Just a quick shot of the current state. I am quite happy with the result so far, yet I think about some sort of freehand for the loincloth. Sorry for the crappy picture....

Space Marine update #4

I painted quite some time the last days and the finishing line for the Marine is getting closer. Up next is the loincloth, the missing arm and the backpack. In fact, this miniature is so much fun that I am seriously thinking about doing a unit of 5 for the German GD. That would limit the number of total entrys to 2 -3.

I tried to differ the lights on the armour concerning the warmth. The upper part is rather warm, while the lower lights seem to be a bit more cold.

Time to say goodbye...

A couple of days ago I meet one of my idols AND best friends, Sascha Buczek (Goatman). When I started to paint miniatures with more and more ambition, he became some sort of guide for me. I always adored his way of thinking miniatures and setting new limits without any effort. After talking at a German GD a couple of years ago, we stayed in contact and started to meet on a regular basis. Over the years he became a true friend of mine. In a few weeks Sascha will leave Germany and go to Swiss. Although I am very happy to see him finally live with his girlfriend, I am a little bit sad as well....
Time to say goodbye, I guess.

Here are some pics of the meeting, just to give you an idea:

I am ready to go, all I need is there...

Miniatures are belt up.

I am almost there....

There he is, the David Phelps of miniature painting in person, plotting his next big coup.

What will it be?

He started something historical...

Creative chaos, isn't it?

Future Slayer Sword winner, trust me!!!

Typical Goatman, took him "some minutes"...

Back on track...

Over the last few days, I have been painting at least 2 hours a day. I am full of motivation and have made a rough plan for this years miniature contests. I will not take part at the "Duke of Bavaria" because I was invited to be part of the jury yesterday, what makes me really proud. This means I have about 6 months until the German Games Day, what most likely will be my single contest this year. Maybe I will go to the Italian Games Day as well, I always liked the mood over there. We will see...

I will try to finish the marine this weekend, as I have quite some spare time. The next project is already waiting for me and will be something completely different, rather delicate.

Take care!

Space Marine Update #3

I finished the base for the marine yesterday in the evening. I wanted to do something new, slightly fragile with several floors. The simplicity of the base, the contrast in colour and lack of damage is meant to round off the overall impression of the mini.
For the water I used 2k water gel from "Noch", a german manufacturer. You just have to mix it 1:1, pour it into the base and wait for about 24 hours. Hope you like it.

Ashigaru in 3-D

Click to enlarge and take a minute, it works....(try to look "through" the monitor and bring the pictures together; once you got it, you can even move your eyes slightly and change the angle)

From the depth of my wip-box....

My wip-box is a shame. Over the years, hundreds of miniatures gathered in a corner of my flat I just like to call "The shame". Some are nearly finished, others will never be. However, I would like to show you one of the inmates, the Ithandir bust by Andrea Miniatures, sculpted by the very talented Freeman.
Will it ever be finished? I don't know.....
The face took me about 2 hours.

Some music...

A couple of days ago I watched "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford", one of the must underrated movies ever. Definitely worth a look, this song might give you an impression of the movie.

Great honour

A great artist, a real humble person and a very good friend of mine started sculpting a few years ago. Simon Modrow, you can find his blog here, has been a source of inspiration over the years for me. Among his latest sculpts are some awesome miniatures in 54mm, mostly inspired by the world of warhammer, but also mixed with historical elements.
During the last Duke of Bavaria we were joking and all of a sudden he asked me wether I am interested to paint one of his recent sculpts. I was, still am, truly honoured by this offer.
Today I would like to show you the latest wip shots of this miniature. It is a priest of Sigmar in 54mm and offers some really fine details. First I was a bit reluctant but finally I started painting this guy. I can't really tell you when this mini will be finished as I would like to paint at moments of highest motivation, which are a bit rare at the moment.
I will paint the armour in NMM, what might seem quite strange for this scale. Nevertheless I am satisfied with the first results.
Sorry for the bad quality of the pics. Let me know what you think.

Space Marine Update #2

After some busy days, today I found some hours for my current Space Marine project. Once again, only minor progress can be seen. The upper part of the miniature is almost finished, can't wait to paint the legs and the cloth. I have cast away the initial idea for the second arm because the overall proportion seemed a bit strange. At the moment, I aim at a banner. But then again, maybe that's just a bit too much. Here are two current wip-shots, the pics are quite dark:
