Tesla - Steampunk Base - Teil 1

With the start of the infamy kickstarter the ideas for a new "steampunk-adventure" flooded my head again ... to be true, adventure is an exaggeration, it's just a base for the kickstarter-exclusive miniature of Tesla, which should be auctioned later.

kleiner gemeiner Teaser :P

Actually my definition of steampunk is a bit simple ... steam, pipes and cogwheels. The picture i have in my head is a small part of a two-storied building similar to the piece "Kanvas and the belly dancer" from Romeo models with a big victorian touch. But on a much smaller base. Here is a picture after half an hour of work:

Grundvolumen in Einzelteilen

I defined the first rough proportions with layers i cut from a sheet of MDF. The 1mm thick MDF is great stuff to work with, it is easy to cut, can be glued with wood glue and can be sanded quite good. With the first layers i made the socket for the building and 2 stairs.
The window is made from laser-cut paper from Fredericus Rex. I have the same window in different sizes. The big one will be in the first story, the smaller ones will be in the second.
The wall was made out of plaster bricks clued on small strips of plastic card. I changed the grouping with every layer and tried to work a bit sloppy here. I thought the pilaster strip would be much more interesting if it was crooked and uneven.

Stellprobe

The whole socket is 1 millimeter smaller on each side than the wooden plinth (from Pegaso Models), so i could add a "frame" of MDF-plates to get nice even sides.

fertige Grundvolumen / Grundelemente

I added the protruding second story here. The windows have been layed out to get a first impression of the proportions.

Now it is time to start with the stone-structures on the building. I started with a consistent layer of greenstuff on the front of the socket. Now i used old cut-down IKEA-brushes to add structure. Those brushes have very stiff plastic bristles, which means they are horrible for painting, but they can create nice natural textures.

Thats how the surface looks after a treatment with those brushes ... don't know why i spent the time to get it smooth and flat before ...

erst horizontal

Next step was to add horizontal lines for the several layers of stones with a sharp long blade.

dann vertikal

Last step was to add the vertical lines with different sculpting tools to define the individual stones.
Now i have a nice brick-wall on the socket. Usually this creates nice results, sometimes it might be necessary to flatten some of the bricks and spend a bit more time to create sharper edges. This might also depend on the material of the wall. Walls made of natural stones have rounder structures and can be really patchy. Clinker walls on the other hands are quite consistent with sharp edges and flat bricks.

fertig gemauert

Time to add structure to the rest of the building.
I finished most of the structure of the first story here. I have a bit more variation in the height of the stones here. The structure becomes much more interesting by doing this. I also varied the size of the stones next to each other. The arc above the window in the first story is not sculpted in a proper way, the static weight can't be carried away by this kind of masonry. But hey, it's steampunk ...

alles was man braucht ;)

Last one for today is a pic with all elements so far in a groupshot. There is also a new element in this picture which sneaked into the shot. Like i said before, for my definition of steampunk i need to add some pipes, no matter if they make sense.

Part 2 will follow after the holiday season when i'm back home and in front of my computer. So there is just one thing left for now, happy christmas for all and a wish for some nice gifts for everyone (socks and stuff). ;)

    1. The Many Faces of Elsa: A Comprehensive Guide to Coloring Pages

If you’re the parent of young children, you’ve probably had the experience of trying to get your kids to sit still while watching TV or reading a book with them, only to have them look at you and say, Can we watch Frozen? If your child has seen Frozen more times than you can count, it might be time to try something new—a coloring book based on the popular Disney movie, specifically. While there are many such books out there, this guide will help you sort through the various options and choose the best one possible for your child and your family.

      Princess Elsa
Elsa is the youngest daughter of King Agnarr and Queen Iduna. She has an elder sister named Anna, and a younger sister named Olaf. Elsa has ice powers that allow her to freeze objects and water (and sometimes other things), but she can't control it at first. This leads her to run away from her home in order to stop anyone from getting hurt by her power. She also meets the Snow Queen, who tells Elsa about the cold never bothering her because she embraced it as opposed to being afraid of it. Elsa realizes that ice can be beautiful instead of dangerous when used in moderation, as well as accepting that she doesn't have control over what people think or say about her anymore.

      Queen Elsa
Elsa is one of the most popular Disney princesses. She has the power to control ice and snow and is known for her bravery, grace, and intelligence. Her childhood wasn't easy but she emerged as a strong leader who was willing to put aside her personal wants and needs in order to do what was best for the kingdom.
Elsa's color scheme is white, blue, silver, black and purple with some pink thrown in there sometimes. Here are some coloring pages you can use as inspiration for your next project!

      Anna and Kristoff
Elsa boyama is the main protagonist in Disney's Frozen, and she is voiced by Idina Menzel. She is Anna and Kristoff's older sister, who at first seems poised and well-mannered but later becomes an outcast when her icy powers are revealed. As a child, she struggles to control her abilities while also dealing with the fact that they might mean she was born different.

      What other characters are there?
Elsa is a Disney character from the movie Frozen. She has many faces, and here are all of them!
-Weeping Elsa: After her sister accidentally hurts her arm, she covers her mouth and cries.
-Elsa the Snow Queen: She holds the magic that freezes Arendelle over and is in charge of creating snow for winter.
-Elsa the Rockstar: In this face, she is wearing sunglasses with a microphone in front of her mouth.
-Elsa as an Olaf Tribute: This face depicts an Olaf doll, frozen solid by Elsa's powers, which she created to help Anna find their way back home. The resemblance between Elsa and Olaf can be seen on both their outfits.
-Elsa Sleepyhead: As she falls asleep while reading Snowman at Night to young Anna, it triggers a memory of when they were younger playing in the ballroom before everything went wrong.
-Anna Proud Sister: When baby Eliza asks if her parents want another child like little sis Annabelle, Anna proudly points at herself.
